The Internationals: A Global Community united by Golf at Gyttegård
25. august 2025
At Gyttegård Golf Klub, the fairways come alive with more than just the sound of golf swings.
Laughter, greetings in multiple languages, and the quiet thrill of competition fill the air as The Internationals take to the course — a growing group of foreign residents who have made Denmark their home and golf their common ground.
Unlike many traditional sub-groups within golf clubs, The Internationals place no restrictions on age, gender or handicap. Whether you are a seasoned single-digit golfer, a complete beginner, or even a Dane curious to join in, the doors are wide open.
“It’s all about the joy of playing together,” says Kai, a German member working at the LEGO Group. “Here, nobody cares if you shoot par or double bogey — it’s about being part of the community.”
A regular tradition
The Internationals meet formally once or twice a month, with every gathering carefully planned and coordinated through their WhatsApp group. But the community doesn’t end there. The WhatsApp chat is active daily, where members arrange casual rounds during the week whenever time and weather allow.
Within the group are players from Germany, Finland, the UK, the USA, Italy, Norway, Australia, and of course, Denmark. The sound of many languages blends seamlessly, but on the course, golf itself becomes the universal language. Tee shots, putts, and handshakes after the round need no translation.
More than just golf
While golf is the magnet, it’s the sense of belonging that keeps people coming back. For many internationals, living in a new country can be a challenge. The group offers an easy way to connect — not just to fellow expats, but also to Danes who are eager to welcome them.
The gatherings often continue beyond the final putt at Plantage Caféen, the golf club’s own café, where food, drinks, and conversation extend the day’s enjoyment.
The social side has become such a strong draw that even players from surrounding clubs are now making the trip to Gyttegård to join in.
A celebration of diversity
The Internationals are not about winning trophies or climbing leaderboards. They’re about celebrating diversity and unity through sport. For Gyttegård Golf Klub, golf has become a symbol of how it can open doors and bring people together across cultures.
“It shows the real spirit of the game,” says a longtime Danish member, smiling as she watches the group head out onto the course. “Golf teaches respect, patience, and fairness. When you combine that with so many cultures, you really see the beauty of it.”
Looking ahead
With membership steadily increasing, The Internationals are becoming one of the most dynamic groups within Gyttegård. The hope is simple: keep welcoming new faces, keep building bridges, and keep proving that sport knows no borders.
As the sun sets on another round, the laughter and goodbyes echo across Plantage Caféen. The message is clear: golf here is not just a game — it’s a gathering of the world, right in the heart of Denmark.
